Clueless

When it comes to Idea and Plot Generation, many screenwriters claim to be Clueless. On June 12, 2002 the TSA had an interactive session to simulate one creative process that can result in new story ideas. All it takes is a person, place and genre.

First, one member
suggested a person.
It was a Bail Bondsman
Then a different member
suggested a location.
It was the World's Fair

Then a third
selected the genre.
It was crime.

Finally, we created a log line using these elements:

"A Bail Bondsman tracks his skip to the 1939 World's Fair"

Next, by switching out only one element at a time,
we had new stories and loglines!
So roll the dice and join in the game of Clueless!

"To find a skip, a Bail Bondsman stalks the skips daughter who works at the Worlds Fair"

"A stripper falls for a wealthy World's Fair visitor and pretends she is also a worldy woman."

"A group of prisoner's smuggle in a stripper."

"A stripper tries to break her boyfriend out of prison."

"A stripper/mob informant hides out in Amish Country."

"A waitress witnesses a murder commited by an Amish Preacher."

"A cannery is a front for illegal drugs and a waitress gets a loaded can."

"A German Waitress during World War 2 finds the cans are filled with people."

"A patient tells a therapist of a murder in a cannery."

"A therapist picks up the wrong pictures at a photolab, they show grusome murders."

"A screenwriter can't sell a script, must work at a one-hour photo."

"A horror writer gets trapped in a mansion with his most horrifying creation."

"A screenwriter builds a haunted mansion on Mars to send his friends."

"A screenwriter falls in love with a ghost of an antebellum mansion."

PLOT GENERATION

Now, these were truly random and not all (or any) of them are guaranteed blockbusters. But, you can always grab ahold of one particular logline and begin to flesh it out. Make two lists, one noting the protagonist plans and the other noting what the protagonist is up against.
PLAN
UP AGAINST

He could buy the place.

He could team with the Historical Society

He could get a film studio involved

He could raise money by marketing the house as haunted

He could pretend their is a phony buyer

The city council wants the building demolished

The WAL-MART who needs the land

The demolition crew who doesn't care

The mansion is decaying itself

The ghost wants her freedom

In essence, what situations can you use to create the story...
Maybe, the ghost can be used to scare the antagonists away...
