FINDING THE TIME by Pete Kremer

Okay…(YAWN)… It’s 4:51 am… Wait… first let me start some coffee. I’ll be right back.

5:02 am… I think I read some where that one of the habits of a successful screenwriter is to write something everyday. That’s easier said than done. I mean, I have one of those jobs that requires more than eight hours of my life each day. And there’s my lovely wife and three kids. That means face time with my beloved, soccer practice, Cub Scouts, and my oldest daughter is about to start driving. (long pause)I need a drink… No! It’s too early.

The problem is, I’m writing pages for one idea, and fleshing out a synopsis for another.

But it seems like it’s taking forever. So I ask myself what’s the point? The odds are against me and… (big yawn)

It’s now 5:09 am… What am I writing? Oh yah. Finding the time to write. Wanting to be successful I had to figure out where I was going to make time to write every day.

A friend of mine told me he gets up at four A.M. so he can get two uninterrupted hours of writing time each day. That’s dedication; and it inspired me. I can only do that two days a week. I get up at 5 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays Mornings to get two solid hours in. It works… most of the time.

A lot of brainstorming goes on as I’m driving to and from where ever I always seem to be going. Notes have to be typed so I don’t forget all the ideas and revisions. That happens Monday, Wednesday and Friday when I get back from the “Y” between 6:30a and… Oops! It’s 7 A.M. Time to wake up the son and get some “toaster pastries” going.

7:05 am… Then if I can chase the kids away from the PC in the evening, I might get another thirty to forty minutes a few of evenings a week. It’s…

Look… the Pop-tarts just popped. I gotta’ go. But the bottom line is I love to write and I want to be successful. So I squeeze some attempt at writing in at least once a day. You can too! It ain’t easy but nothing worth doing is
